The Worship Center as you now know it, originated in 1982 from a home Bible study group called the Helping Hand Bible Band.
Our beginning church services were held in a rented, very old church building. The assumed name of St. Peter Bible Church of God was used at that time. The first morning worship service was held April 25, 1982. Initially, worship services were held on 2nd and 4th Sundays only. Shortly thereafter, by popular demand, worship services were held every Sunday. Presently at The Worship Center, two worship services are held each Sunday; i.e., 8:30 a.m. and 11:15 a.m., respectively.
God placed the vision for the church within Bishop, Senior Pastor, and Founder, Roy A. McKoy. He began searching for property to build God a house. God blessed with a beautiful site of six acres of land, which the church purchased immediately. In the fall of 1989, the hammers began to ring in constructing the new church. In March 1990, God blessed His people to march from the old church to the new sanctuary, known as Pentecostal Assembly of Jesus Christ, now known as The Worship Center. What a joyous occasion! God has brought His people through many obstacles, victoriously. We are more than conquerors through Jesus Christ.
In addition to the sanctuary site, an additional acre with a house on the property was purchased, which adjoins the right side of The Worship Center site. This property has been remodeled and converted to Alpha Omega Child Development Center. In 1998, The Worship Center also purchased the building that adjoins the left side of The Worship Center site, which includes another acre. This location houses The Worship Center Technology Training Center.
God has given Bishop McKoy an even greater vision for The Worship Center. The present church building as you now see it is Phase 1 of a 3-Phase construction. Phase 2 will be a dome structure connected to Phase 1. The dome will become the main sanctuary, measuring approximately 150 feet in diameter and seating approximately 1,200 people with expansion capabilities for seating 2,000, which will be Phase 3.
When this phase is completed, we are believing God for greater visions and continued goals in order to continue His work and to bless His people tremendously. Bishop Roy and Pastor Costella are determined to work faithfully until Jesus returns.
We are presently broadcasting on Radio Station WEEB 990 – AM, in Southern Pines, NC. There are future plans to expand to other radio stations and engage in television ministries, as well.
God has given our bishop and pastor the central theme of “Spiritual Maturity.” “My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge” (Ho. 4:6). “Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; …for my yoke is easy and my burden is light” (Matt. 11:29-30).
Praise God for His mighty acts! Let the redeemed of the Lord say so!
